Contribute to Web-CAT

Hello everyone,

First of all, I would like to thank you all for the work you put on this platform which is currently helping hundreds of instructors and students, me included. I was wondering if the Web-CAT platform is open source or just free to use, because I and some colleagues from the University Politehnica of Bucharest would love to contribute to its development with bug fixes and new graders for Hardware Description Languages.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Kind regards,
Radu Hobincu

Hi! Yes it is open

Hi! Yes it is open source.

Compiling it can be a challenge, but I co-created which can help you with that. Katie Cunningham at CSUMB is helping with that, as is mkhon on GitHub.

I'm also extremely interested in helping people make a package of Web-CAT for Sandstorm, an open source web app package manager that I work on. You can get a sense of what that might be like by visiting the app marketplace for that here:

So if you're up for that, I'd be particularly happy to help you! Consider emailing me,

Sorry, for some reason I did not get a notification about this post. The fact that someone else is interested in developing this is great news, I will make sure to clone the repo and check it out. However, I would feel much better if someone from the original dev team would de willing to help out. There are two reasons for this:

1. Including someone with knowledge about this platform would definitely help a lot and also it would keep everyone from Virginia Tech in the loop.

2. I believe there is a new version for most of the packages (Web-CAT has an automatic update feature) that I think are not public (yet?). For example, my server is running Web-CAT v1.5.0/  but folder 1.5.0 on sourceforge is empty. So I wonder, is up to date?
